The YT-1300 light freighter is one of the most well-known design of ships to ever have come out of the Corscan Galaxy. The most famous example of a ship of this line is the Millenium Falcon, which is a heavily-modified version of the YT-1300 piloted by Captain Han Solo.

[edit] History
The YT-1300 was designed by the Corellia Engineering Corporation, one of the three largest starship manufacturing corporations in Corscan, and became the most sought-after model ever produced by them. Because of the way that the ship was designed, the starship was also very cheap to produce. Shortly after it was released, it became the most popular ship for freight work, due to its affordability, sleek design, and durability. Although its popularity began to decrease just prior to the Galactic Civil War, there are still YT-1300s in use today, most notably the Millennium Falcon.
[edit] Design
The YT-1300 employs a modular design, which is the main reason for its cheap production. A circular corridor is in the center of the ship, which connects to the various modules, the cockpit, and the quad-laser turret mounted in the top center of the ship. The modules can be quickly replaced with a variety of other modules, including ones designed for holding cargo and for passengers.
The external design of the YT-1300 came in 3 variations: a port mounted cockpit, a starboard mounted cockpit, and a centrally mounted cockpit. The Millennium Falcon had a starboard mounted cockpit.
The YT-1300 was originally sold in two configurations, YT-1300f and YT-1300p, the freight and passenger versions respectively. As more and more YT-1300s were modified to have a balanced mix of freight and passenger modules, the configuration eventually became the stock model of the YT-1300 and the freight and passenger only models were phased out.
[edit] YT-1300p
In the passenger configuration, space was allocated almost entirely for passenger quarters and a lounge, with only a small portion for a cargo hold. On both sides of the ship were two escape pods. In the passenger configuration, a ship could hold 6 passengers along with 2 crew members with enough supplies to last 2 months.
[edit] YT-1300f
In the freight configuration almost no level of passenger occupation was afforded, with the modules of the ship being devoted entirely to cargo space. Instead of the two escape pods were docking rings and boarding ramps allowing for the easy loading and unloading of the ship. In the freight configuration the ship only held the 2 crew members with enough supplies for 2 months. Often a freight configuration YT-1300 was piloted by only a single crew member.
[edit] Customization
The true appeal of the YT-1300 was its ability to be customized, inside and out. While the modular system of the craft allowed its inside appearance to be easily changed, other modifications such as floor compartments, external cargo pods and better hyperdrive systems were some of the hundreds of modifications made to the YT-1300. Modifications of the ship were so prevalent that it was extremely unlikely to find two ships in the same configuration unless they had just come off the line.
