Universal Alliance of Independent Systems

The Universal Alliance of Independent Systems (UAIS, sometimes pronounced "You-Ace") is the governing body of the three primary galaxies known as the Trifecta.

The Universal Alliance of Independent Systems was first proposed during the opening years of the Imperial Wars. During the exodus of the Corscan Galaxy, the Galactic Republic was desperate for some sort of representation within the boundaries of the Milky Way, where the seat of government was forced to relocate to after the Calrissian Empire was able to take the Corscan capital of Coruscant. A Vulcan senator in the United Federation of Planets brought the idea of an intergalactic unison of interests, which eventually evolved into the UAIS. It wasn’t until the Klingon Empire openly declared war on the Calrissian Empire that a convention at Earth was held. Aboard a space station called “New Harbor Spire” the Earth Accords were signed and the UAIS Constitution was drafted. The New Harbor Spire was renamed the "Washington Citadel,” and became the headquarters of the Universal Alliance, housing the President’s office, UAIS Fleet Headquarters, The Milky Way’s detachment of the Jedi Order, and Universal Trading Federation main offices.

The Universal Alliance was formed by the seven dominant governmental bodies of the Galaxies of Corscan and the Milky Way to properly solidify their alliance against the Calrissian Empire during the Imperial Wars. The United Federation of Planets, The Galactic Republic, The Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance, The United Nations, The Twelve Colonies of Kobol, The Klingon Empire, and The United States of America were the first to sign the Earth Accords. Many more governing bodies throughout allied space were later entered into the Alliance, most notably the Gylan Empire, governing body of the Triana Galaxy.

[edit] Leadership

The leadership of the Alliance changes every seven years. Each member state’s leader also becomes the leader of the Alliance during their member state’s position in the rotation, unless the member state chooses a different representative through their own political means. Currently only the seven founding member states are in the rotation, but the Gylan Empire has recently petitioned to enter the rotation, as well as several dozen other member states.

If a leader, for whatever reason, cannot complete the seven year term, the current member state in the leadership rotation will select a leader to finish the remaining time in the term.

While each member state is permitted to maintain their sovereignty, their military powers also were required to fall under the jurisdiction of the UAIS when called upon. Following the end of the Imperial Wars, the UAIS began their own independent military works in order to lighten the load on the member states who had the larger military roles during the war.
