Hidesquadron:Explaining Continuity

From UNICOMP, the Universal Compendium

One of the major concerns people have when they first start reading The Trials of Humanity is how exactly does the story fit into the continuity of the individual stories it is made up of? This essay will attempt to answer that question.

[edit] Timeline of The Trials of Humanity

The Trials of Humanity takes place in no specific time, only "the future." Along with the Real Life timeline, other timelines from various other works are incorporated.

Fig. 1: An example of the TTOH timeline.

The Trials of Humanity timeline has its main roots in the Real Life timeline, that is, the events of history as we know it up until the present. At this point, the Main TTOH timeline begins.

In Fig. 1 is an example of two of the many alternate timelines, the Star Wars timeline and the Star Trek timeline. Up until the split point, the timeline in both stories is identical. After the split point, the main timeline for that series continues as usual, while the TTOH version of events is merged into the Main TTOH timeline at the merge point. For example, in the Official Star Wars timeline, Chewbacca dies during the Yuuzhan Vong war. However, this is not the case in the Main TTOH timeline, where he is presented as very much alive. This point in time is not necessarily the split point, however. The split point is defined as the latest point in time where one timeline's history is identical to the Main TTOH timeline's history. Indeed, for some timelines the split point may be the present.

It should also be noted that events that occur after each respective series' split point may still be events that are described within the TTOH story. Continuing with the Yuzzan Vong war example, where Chewbacca has not died, the war continued on and was resolved as described in actual Star Wars fiction. This trend can truly only be described as the author's discretion within the TTOH universe.
