Benjamin Sika

Benjamin Sika is the captain of the Betazed, as well as the USS Pennsylvania.

The details of Sika's childhood are unclear, even to him. He was first found by a Klingon couple, who sent him to an orphanage on the colony world of Chimore IV. He ran away at age 18 to pursue his dream of running a shipping business. His career started slowly when he snuck aboard the smuggler kingpin Talon Karrade's ship, the Wild Karrade. Taking the boy under his wing, Karrade taught him the "fine art" of smuggling and counterfeiting.

A proud supporter of the Republic, Karrade never became bothered by the government over his under the table dealings. When the Empire came back to power, Karrade re-enacted the Smuggler's Alliance, first formed during the Galactic Civil War. When this occured, Sika took his leave of organized crime. He had a strong dislike for getting caught, and the re-made Empire had somewhat of a talent for finding and eliminating smugglers.

As he made his way in the galaxy, he earned enough to purchase his first ship, the Betazed. The K-93 Warphammer class freighter was slow, bulky and weak before he modified and expanded it. The ship was his de facto base of operations and his home, making him a very self-reliant individual. He also became quite talented with the ladies, having many affairs with women across the cosmos. One relationship resulted in the birth of a son, Jeremy. Ben didnt want to deal with parenthood, so he left him and his mother to pursue other ventures.

He found himself working the underground on Mon Calamari, which was unlike his normal character. He became more and more involved in rebel activity against the Empire, and it caught up with him. When the war came to Mon Calamari, he became trapped in the blockade of the planet. When he joined up with a young man named Johnathan Matthews, he aided in the evacuation of the surface as the Empire glassed the planet.

For his aid in the evacuation he was granted the honorary rank of Captain in the Alliance, and was given the prototype battleship, the USS Pennsylvania. He was to relay out of Corscan and travel to Earth for the ship, but he had yet to reveal his first mate, who just happened to be Matthews.
